Described as “sleek, new,” “hyper-fluent” and “a composer that rocks” by The New York Times, Pascal Le Boeuf (he/him) is a GRAMMY-nominated composer, jazz pianist, and electronic artist whose works range from modern improvised music to hybridizing notation-based chamber music with production-based technology.
A Santa Cruz native, Pascal returns home to Kuumbwa with a 7- piece jazz/classical hybrid ensemble to celebrate the release of his latest album “Ritual Being.” The album explores the differential manifestation of human behavior at micro (individual) and macro (en masse) scales, and how these “rituals” can be propitious or disastrous. “Ritual Being” asks, what happens when we project our individual behaviors and routines onto the whole of our species? Do our rituals become productive, harmful, or unsustainable when applied to human beings en masse?
The new chamber-jazz hybrid suite features San Francisco’s Friction Quartet, bassist Giulio Cetto, and drummer Malachi Whitson.
