Master Class: Marcie Chapa – Keep It in the Pocket

Led by renowned percussionist Marcie Chapa, this class – Keep It in the Pocket – will help improve your fluency with groove, rhythm, and a musical phrasing that is ‘in the pocket’. The term ‘in the pocket’ refers to playing with deep, consistent groove and tight rhythm that locks in with the rhythm section, especially the drums and bass.

Chapa is a noted percussionist with a love for music and a passion for education in the arts. She was an original member of Beyoncé’s all-female band and worked with Beyoncé for several years. Jay Z, Alicia Keys, J. Lo, Jill Scott, Al Jarreau, Kanye West, and Mary J Blige, just to name a few, have all called upon Chapa’s musical talents.
