POSTPONED – Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band

COVID-19 Update: Recognizing the mandate from the Governor of California and other official agencies, Kuumbwa Jazz is cancelling/postponing concerts through at least June 25th. Ticket-holders will be contacted directly regarding refunds and other ticketing options, such as crediting the ticket(s) towards a future concert date, or recognizing the value of a ticket purchase as a tax-deductible donation to Kuumbwa Jazz. We will be working on rescheduling as many concert dates as possible and will provide updates as they become available. We appreciate your understanding and we will continue to follow the direction and guidance provided by official agencies, as the wellbeing of our patrons and community remains our top priority.

The Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band showcases the top-tier high school student musicians from Santa Cruz and neighboring counties. Hand-picked by their band directors, these talented young ambassadors of jazz pass a rigorous audition to earn their position in the Honor Band. During weekly rehearsals at Kuumbwa, they study advanced jazz theory, arranging, improvisation, and learn valuable life skills in teamwork and critical thinking. Under the direction of David McGillicuddy, the band-members gain vital performing experience at special events and festivals throughout the school year, culminating in this special headline performance at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center. The 2019/2020 band features Pianist Noé Arredondo George, trombonist Donald Baker, drummer David Feinberg, trumpeter Ian Ferrucci, tenor saxophonist Sage Liem, bassist Thea Miller, tenor saxophonist Logan Robb, guitarist Sebastian Roeder-Hensley, and alto saxophonist/clarinetist Skyler Shipp.
