South Korean bassist Jeong Lim Yang has performed extensively on the New York City scene since 2011. Her debut album as a leader and composer titled Déjà Vu (Fresh Sound, 2017), won NPR‘s ‘Best Debut Album of the Year.’ Yang released two albums with the experimental Brooklyn-based collective known as *Mute*—the self-titled album (Fresh Sound, 2020) and *After You’ve Gone* (Endectomorph, 2024), both of which garnered international acclaim.

Yang’s latest record Zodiac Suite: Reassured (Fresh Sound, 2022) is a rendition of Mary Lou Williams’ renowned Zodiac Suite (1945). The Zodiac Trio featuring pianist Santiago Leibson and drummer Mark Ferber continues that celebration of Williams’ artistry, anchored by Yang’s lyrical and melodic playing.
