NYC jazz flutist/composer, Sunnyside Records artist and 2014 Guggenheim Fellow, Jamie Baum just released her seventh album, What Times Are These. Incurring a multitude of accolades and notable press including the highly-coveted-yet-infrequently-bestowed five-star review in DownBeat, Baum chose the poetry used in her compositions from “A Poet a Day,” Bill Moyers’ produced website. Upon hearing the album, Moyers offered a quote calling it, “a masterpiece of sound and spirit.”  The Jamie Baum Quartet on this concert date will also feature pianist Leo Genovese, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Allison Miller.

Internationally recognized as one of the top jazz flutists, listed in DownBeat Critics Polls annually since 1999 and nominated thirteen times as “Flutist of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association, Baum has toured in thirty-five countries and worked with artists ranging from Randy Brecker, Paul Motian, Mick  Goodrick, Roy Hargrove, Tom Harrell, John Abercrombie and Kenny Barron to Dave Douglas, Fred Hersch, Kenny  Werner, David Binney, Louis Cole, Jane Bunnett, Anthony Braxton and Wadada Leo Smith.

Baum has toured the West Coast several times, most recently with her renown Septet+. An ensemble she formed in 1999 that boasts some of the most in demand, cutting-edge NYC players. On this particular tour, Baum is excited to present her new Quartet for a more intimate experience.

The Quartet debuted at NYC’s infamous Mezzrow Jazz Club in the spring of 2023 to an enthusiastic audience, and their chemistry and fire has ignited a ground-swell of enthusiasm wherever they’ve since performed. Having played together over the years in other’s bands and various configurations, the combination of familiarity and surprise keeps the audience engaged. They perform a mix of originals and uniquely-arranged standards with highlights including Lennon & McCartney’s “Little Help From My Friends,” Carla Bley’s “Lawns,” “Fille De Kilimanjaro” by Miles Davis, and “Eighty-One” by Ron Carter.
