Celebrating the music of iconic hot jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, Django A Gogo features musical director Stephane Wrembel and the Stephane Wrembel Band featuring very special guests from France Simba Baumgartner and Aurore Voilqué.
Wrembel is quite simply one of the finest guitar players in the world. The breadth and range of his playing and compositions are unmatched. This prolific musician, composer, educator, and musical director has released a steady stream of music since 2002 truly making his mark as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music.
Baumgartner is the great-grandson of Django Reinhardt. He started learning guitar at age four in the tradition of his family, learning all of his great-grandfather’s secrets. Baumgartner is highly regarded by his peers as one of the greatest Gypsy jazz players in the world and has devoted his life to carrying on his family legacy. In 2019, he released his debut album, Les Yeux, on Wrembel’s Water Is Life Records and made his NYC debut at Wrembel’s Django A Gogo Music Festival. Since then, he has become a regular performer with the Django A Gogo All Stars.
Voilqué was born with a fiddle in her hands. She started playing at the age of four and has never stopped. After some experience in classical music with various orchestras and years of being initiated and playing with the Sintis (French Gypsies), she decided to start the Aurore Quartet in 2003. Gypsy jazz was always in her mind, and at the center of her soul, so she naturally became more and more involved in that cultural and musical movement. Releasing an average of one album every two years, she has become a very prolific artist and band-leader. Voilqué is simply regarded as the greatest violin player of this style in France.
