Nicknamed “Captain Fingers” for his guitar skills (also the title of his third album), Ritenour rode the electric jazz/fusion wave of the late ’70s. He continues to champion the smooth, melodic style that he is renowned for. Guitarist Mike Stern earned his stripes in Miles Davis’s comeback band of the early ’80s. He went on to co-lead a group with saxophonist Bob Berg before leading his own bands. Accompanying the two stellar guitar-slingers are an ace rhythm section of bassist Melvin Davis and drummer Sonny Emory. Lee’s latest recording is Amparo (Decca Records).
