First Friday Art Collective: Jazz Heroes 3

Friday, May 3, 6:00 – 9:00 PM | Free Event First Friday Art Collective: Jazz Heroes 3 Curator Marvin Plummer gathers five local artists to create interpretations of their favorite jazz musicians. The collective features San Francisco muralist Brian Barneclo; assemblage artist Jack Howe; artist/illustrator Charlie Powell; high school artist Owen Powell; and printmaker Doug Ross. DJ Vinnie will be spinning classic vinyl from Blue Note and Impulse Records from the 60s and 70s. DJ Vinnie was voted best local DJ by the San Francisco Bay Guardian Reader’s Poll. The KJ café and beverage bar will be open, so join us for a funky and festive First Friday!           Brian Barneclo studied painting and art history at Indiana University. In 1996, he moved to San Francisco, and began work as a sign painter, which eventually led to his current canvas – painting murals. Brian is influenced by Pablo Picasso, Romare Bearden, Paul Cezanne, and Stuart Davis. He gets tons of inspirations from living in San Francisco. www.brianbarneclo.com Jack Howe is a self taught assemblage artist, living in Santa Cruz,. His works are narrative pieces that tell a story. Jack has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Tokyo, San Francisco, and other cities. He has exhibited at dozen’s of galleries including La Luz de Jesus Gallery, LA, since it’s early days on Melrose and many years with Patricia Correia Gallery, Santa Monica, along with museums, universities, and colleges.
