Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks “Live at Davies”

Friday, September 6, 9:00 PM Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks “Live at Davies” $22/Adv $25/Door Doors at 8:30 PM Co-Sponsored by KPIG 107.5 FM “… musical virtuosity mixed with wit.” – The International Review of Music Hicksters rejoice! Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks continue to tour the U.S. in support of his new album, Live at Davies (Surfdog Records). The album is a fantastic collection of compelling and witty tunes that show why Tom Waits called him “fly, sly, wily, and dry!”  In honor of the eternal hipster himself, dozens of stars appeared on stage to celebrate Dan Hicks’ 70th birthday!  A sold-out crowd at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall enjoyed an incredible evening featuring guest appearances by Rickie Lee Jones, Harry Shearer, Maria Muldaur, Van Dyke Parks, Tuck and Patti, John Hammond, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, and many others! We captured the best of the night with this live CD. It includes several of Dan’s biggest hits as well as some never before released live! As the author of several classic tunes, I Scare Myself, Where’s The Money?, How Can I Miss You When You Won’t Go Away?, and Canned Music, Hicks’ songwriting style infuses the steady 4/4 guitar swing of Django Reinhardt with the lyrical wit of Fats Waller and the country blues of Jimmy Rogers. Hicks calls it Folk Swing, but whatever you call it, it’s finger-pickin’ fun. Climb aboard the train to Hicksville…and don’t look back!
