“… Eliane Elias is a formidable artist.” – E-jazz News
Eliane Elias never stops looking for new ways to fashion her Brazilian roots into new avenues of expression. Since her appearance on the North American music scene as part of Mike Mainieri’s Steps Ahead (I think Steps Ahead should be italizcized), Elias has forged her own way, becoming one of Brazil’s best-known and respected musical exports. Mixing the influences of Jobim, Bud Powell and classical music with the rhythmic underpinnings of Brazilian samba, Elias always comes up with intriguing musical insights. A strong, emotive pianist and composer, Elias’ occasional vocalizing, in dynamic contrast to her strong piano playing, is warm, intimate and enticing. Her most recent CD is Light My Fire (Concord Records).
