“One of the 25 best drummers of all-time.” – Modern Drummer

One of the undisputed greats to ever sit behind a drum kit, Dave Weckl has embarked on his first solo project in over a decade with his new Acoustic Band. Featuring Makoto Ozone on piano/keyboards, Gary Meek on saxophones, and Tom Kennedy on bass, this group is filled to the brim with riveting chemistry and vibrant musical conversation. Weckl is a top-call session player who can count Simon & Garfunkel, Diana Ross, Chick Corea and Robert Plant amongst his credits, but this band is not merely a vessel to showcase Weckl’s singular talents; it’s a master class in improvisation and collaboration.

For more than 25 years, Weckl has developed and maintained a reputation amongst fans and musicians alike as one of the world’s most influential drummers.  His accolades include being inducted into Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame and a discography across jazz, rock and pop, which is unrivaled.

A native of St. Louis, Weckl cut his teeth in the local scene before landing (upon the recommendation of bassist Anthony Jackson) the Simon & Garfunkel reunion tour in 1983.  It comes as no surprise that that high-profile gig led to numerous, notable sessions and tours, including a seven-year period of work with Chick Corea, which earned much acclaim, including a Grammy. Aside from his work since then as a bandleader, Weckl is devoted to music education, stating: “it is my goal to inspire as many…people as possible to want to play music, whether it be on drums or another instrument.”

Weckl is joined in this group by Ozone, who is one of Japan’s finest pianists and is known for his collaborations with legendary vibraphonist Gary Burton. Bassist Tom Kennedy is also a native son of St. Louis and has been a mainstay on the East Coast session scene since the mid-eighties. Gary Meek is known for his smooth and melodic saxophone tone, providing a perfect counterpart to the expressive and vocal quality of the Weckl/Kennedy rhythm section. This acoustic band is a true group of like-minded musical compatriots, while also serving as a fresh and satisfying outlet for one of our era’s greatest drummers.
