We are pleased to share that distinguished and acclaimed violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan will be joining the Masters of Percussion ensemble for this concert. Regretfully, due to delays in the visa application process, Niladri Kumar will not be able to perform on this date.
Zakir Hussain is not only a master tabla player, but a student of an astonishing array of percussion traditions. Zakir Hussain’s Masters of Percussion, an outgrowth of Hussain’s duet tours with his late father, the legendary Ustad Allarakha, began in 1996 to provide a platform for rarely heard Indian rhythm traditions. Over time, the ensemble has expanded to include great drummers and percussionists from many world traditions, including jazz, as well as the occasional stringed instrument. 2019 will be the centennial year of Allarakha’s birth, so this will be a very special Masters of Percussion tour, featuring Ganesh Rajagopalan on violin, the peerless Eric Harland on Western drums, and the Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar Group: The Drummers of Kerala from the Southwestern coast of India. These incredible artists and ensembles will perform together and separately on this concert date.
