Youth Bank Cabaret: Tammi Brown & Band with Youth Singers

6:00 PM
Silent Auction at 6:00 PM
All Ages

The Youth Resource Bank’s Cabaret 2020 fundraiser will showcase Tammi Brown & Band playing a rousing Soul and R&B set.  Tammi has shared stages with Maya Angelou, Joan Baez, George Benson, and many other great figures. She has toured the world with the legendary Sista Monica Parker’s band and Linda Tillery’s Grammy-nominated Cultural Heritage Choir from Oakland as a featured vocalist.

The much-beloved, Grammy-nominated Tammi Brown has performed at famed venues like the Apollo Theater in Harlem and the Monterey Jazz Festival. Tammi was the featured vocalist on  jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan’s Grammy-nominated tune ‘Steppin’ Out’ at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2008.

Special for Cabaret 2020, Tammi has invited Youth Singers from the 2019 Stanford University Summer Music Camp where Tammi teaches and mentors young performers.  These young singers will perform a broad array of pop, folk, jazz, and soul songs with the backing of Tammi’s full band.

The Cabaret 2020 promises to burst with fresh & emerging talent. And will also deliver a ‘knockout punch’ of soul music from Tammi Brown and her hand-picked band of the ‘best seasoned musicians in Santa Cruz’.

Tammi says, “I’m bringing the most versatile and skilled musicians for the Cabaret because I want to showcase our young singers in the best way possible.  And then end the evening with a danceable, soul-filled groove.  I really looking forward to supporting the wonderful and highly local work of the Youth Bank.  I’m told that this benefit fills their coffers for the entire year; we can’t wait to be part of the show.”

Tammi Brown & Band:  Dan Robbins on bass; Mike Shannon on drums; Frank Buchanan on guitar; Eddie Mendenhall on piano; Tammi Brown with vocals.

Guest Youth Vocalists singing with Tammi Brown & Band:
Olivia Warwick … is 15 years old and a sophomore at San Domenico School in San Anselmo. She won 1st place at Marin County Star Search. Olivia has performed at the Fenix, Berklee College of Music, the Caveau de la Huchette in Paris, the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, and most recently, at a tribute to Whitney Houston featuring MC Hammer at the Throckmorton Theater in Mill Valley, California. She is excited to attend A Cappella Academy this summer at Mount St. Marys University in Los Angeles.

Josephine Blase … is 11 years old in the 5th grade at Thomas Edison Charter Academy in San Francisco. She is thrilled to be singing as a guest of Tammi Brown at Kuumbwa Jazz Center. Coming from a musical family, singing has always been a part of Josephines life. She enjoys performing in musicals and has had roles as Jane in Mary Poppins, Jetsam in The Little Mermaid, an Oompa Loompa in Willy Wonka, and a Munchkin/Jitterbug in The Wizard of Oz. She has taken acting lessons at San Diego Junior Theater and studies voice with her mother, Denise Blase. In addition to singing and acting, Josephine plays the piano, ukulele, the drums and is an aspiring songwriter.  She also loves dancing, painting and writing short stories.

Monica Evans… is a 17 year old vocalist attending Linfield Christian HS in Southern California. Her career started as a three-year-old girl doing a duet with her mother at church. Now, she is 17, and is still singing for God. She was the featured soloist on the “Breaking the Barriers” album at age 12 singing “When We All Get To Heaven.” Monica was also a finalist in the SOUTH BAY TEEN IDOL singing competition in 2016 and has performed at red carpet events such as the 38th Annual Young Artist Awards. She has been given the opportunity to sing “The National Anthem” for her school and was a lead soloist in the Linfield Disneyland performance. Monica has recently been accepted to California Baptists University on an academic scholarship — where she will study Speech Pathology and Commercial Music for Voice.
