We ARE is the resurgence of the empathic collaboration between pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland. Three of the most distinctive voices of their generation, their 25 years of creative friendship will be highlighted on a new release in 2023.
“For over 20 years, pianist Aaron Goldberg has set himself apart as one of the most scintillating performers in jazz,” hails JazzTimes. Goldberg is widely heralded as one of the art form’s most compelling pianists, both leading his own trio and collaborating with such brilliant icons as Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Guillermo Klein and many more. Simultaneously swinging and embracing risk, his stylistically fluid, singular voice reveals that jazz is a tradition of innovation.
Whether laying down a window-rattling groove, painting lush harmonic colors or conveying delicate lyricism, Rogers’ passion and singular voice shine through in any musical setting. While he’s constantly adapting his always-recognizable voice to new settings, styles and challenges, Rogers’ career is remarkable for the longevity of his many artistic relationships. Over the last two decades, he’s been featured on more than 250 recordings (including his sole release as a leader, the 2006 all-star session The Things I Am) and countless international tours.
Harland is one of the most in-demand drummers of his generation. He has already been on close to 400 recordings and multiple film scores. Eric has been recognized in the Boston Globe, New York Times, JazzTimes, Modern Drummer, All About Jazz, The New Yorker, DownBeat, L’uomo Vogue and other prominent publications.
