Roberta Gambarini – twice awarded “Female Jazz Singer of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association and twice nominated for a Grammy award – has earned high praise from many jazz luminaries. Pianist Hank Jones, who was featured on her 2008 album You Are There and has worked with many major jazz vocalists, declared Gambarini to be the best singer to emerge in six decades. Her most recent recording, Connecting Spirits: Roberta Gambarini Sings the Jimmy Heath Songbook, features music by saxophone great Jimmy Heath with lyrics by Gambarini.

Hailing from Turin, Italy, Gambarini grew up in a music-loving household. Her parents were avid jazz fans with an extensive record collection, the source of her early singing inspirations. Saxophone great James Moody became a mentor, helping her to make new contacts and tour with the Dizzy Gillespie All Stars Big Band. Her debut album, Easy to Love, earned a coveted Grammy nomination. So In Love, her third album, also received a Grammy nomination and won the Grand Prix du Jazz Vocal award, in 2009, from the Jazz Academy of France. Gambarini will be joined on this concert date by pianist Eric Gunnison, bassist Mark Simon, and drummer Paul Romaine.
