Kuumbwa Jazz Presents

CANCELLED – Miles Okazaki’s Trickster

COVID-19 Update: Recognizing the mandate from the Governor of California and other official agencies, Kuumbwa Jazz is cancelling/postponing concerts. Ticket-holders will be contacted directly regarding refunds and other ticketing options, such as crediting the ticket(s) towards a future concert date, or recognizing the value of a ticket purchase as a tax-deductible donation to Kuumbwa Jazz. We will be working on rescheduling as many concert dates as possible and will provide updates as they become available. We appreciate your understanding and we will continue to follow the direction and guidance provided by official agencies, as the wellbeing of our patrons and community remains our top priority.

Miles Okazaki is a New York City-based guitarist who has been described by The New York Times as “utterly contemporary, free from the expectations of what it means to play a guitar in a group setting — not just in jazz, but any kind.” His sideman experience over the last two decades covers a broad spectrum – from standards to experimental music – and his collaborators include Kenny Barron, Jane Monheit, and John Zorn. As a bandleader, Okazaki has released five albums of original compositions over the past twelve years. He has also released a six-album recording of the complete compositions of Thelonious Monk for solo guitar, published a book, has taught guitar and rhythmic theory at the University of Michigan for five years, and holds degrees from Harvard University, Manhattan School of Music, and the Juilliard School. His group Trickster also features pianist Matt Mitchell, bassist Anthony Tidd, and drummer Sean Rickman.
