An evening dedicated to Sarah Elizabeth Campbell’s life and music with Blame Sally, Nina Gerber, Chris Webster, Laurie Lewis, Tom Rozum, Kathy Kallick, Carol McComb, and special guests.

Sarah Elizabeth Campbell, (“Sayra Liz”) from Austin, Texas, was a songwriter of distinction, possessor of a gorgeous voice, an excellent guitarist, and definitely a prankster. She had strong ties with Northern California, where she lived in Columbia in the 70’s and 80’s and spent 12 years in the bluegrass band Fiddlestix, the original Host Band of the Strawberry Music Festival. Her solo renditions of John Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery” performed several times there, are legendary. She released her debut solo album, A Little Tenderness, produced by Nina Gerber, in 1986. She collaborated with many distinguished artists from Northern California over the years (Nina, Kathy Kallick, John Reischman, Sally Van Meter, Joe Craven and Joe Weed all appeared on her debut album), some of whom will be playing here tonight.

Though originally planned as a benefit concert for Sarah, to help defray the treatment costs of the liver cancer she had been battling for years, all the performers wanted to go ahead and celebrate her life on this evening with her music and stories about her. The title, Bummer Night, comes from her long-running Monday evening series of mostly “downer” songs in Austin.  The proceeds of the concert will be donated to a non-profit Sarah would have approved of.  Her influence in Austin can be judged by the fact that the Liver Foundation of Central Texas will donate $40,000 in her name to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, www.myhaam.org
