[FEBRUARY 11, 2009] SANTA CRUZ, CA — Keshav Sing, 17, a senior at Pacific Collegiate School was awarded an ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award.  ASCAP is acronym for the American Society for Composers, Authors and Publishers. Keshav and other honorees will be recognized at the ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame Ceremonies on June 16 in New York. Keshav has been playing jazz guitar since 2006. He got his start playing in the Kuumbwa Honor Jazz Band and was inspired by older musicians in the band such as Ben Flocks and Jesse Scheinin, whom continue to perform regularly. Keshav is now in his third year with the Kuumbwa Honor Jazz Band, which continues to be an important part of his growth as a musician. The band’s next gig is performing in the lobby of the Santa Cruz Civic on March 23, prior to Chick Corea and John McLaughlin take the stage with the Five Peace Band featuring Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett and Vinnie Colaiuta. Keshav has already recorded his first CD, and is currently auditioning at several universities to continue his musical pursuits this fall.

Also receiving ACASP Young Jazz Composer Awards are former Santa Cruz residents, now living in New York, Remy and Pacal Le Boeuf.
