Trudy Pitts Trio
Thursday, February 16

Trudy Pitts is one of today’s premier jazz organists and pianists. As an educator, composer, arranger and song stylist, Trudy brings an exciting dimension to the stage. Her sound is truly unique and it has been a model for numerous other players through the years. As a classically trained musician, Trudy’s organ style presents an array of warm and often sinewy timbres that are more akin to the church pipe organ. Her approach to the organ and piano can be almost gossamer in its attack. As a Prestige recording artist, she became a pioneering force in the Soul Jazz movement of this country. In 1996, she was named ‘A Living Legend’ for her lifetime achievements by International Women in Jazz. Trudy has performed with such jazz greats as Rhasaan Roland Kirk, Grover Washington, Jr., Lionel Hampton, Donald Byrd, Ben Webster, Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt.
