Caravan - Gypsy/Fusion/Jazz featuring Ann Whittington Thursday, February 9

Featuring special guest dancer
Sara Wilbourne

"If ever there was music to transcend the daily, this is it!" - Sara Wilbourne, Dancer

For the last several years, Caravan has been moving away from the traditional jazz standard repertoire and exploring original music. Vocalist Ann Whittington and reed player Phil Smith compose the songs. Whittington's poetic and often existential lyrics are woven within musical landscapes that pull from a solid jazz foundation but also include contemporary and Latin/world beat sounds. The effect is very musical and very danceable. Caravan is definitely stepping out to create a sound that is immediately recognizable as their own. The band also includes master drummer Jersey Foreman and Santa Cruz favorite Brian Chester on keyboards. New to the band is bassist Victor Revere, who many will remember from the band Worlds Collide. Caravan will play some tunes from their debut CD Symphony of Stars but mostly you can expect to hear a preview of new tunes from their soon-to-be-released CD The Great Dreamer.
