"The hottest Irish traditional band on the planet"
Named for the ancient Celtic harvest in honor of the Irish god Lugh, patron of the arts, Lunasa has redefined Irish music by going right to the heart of its intoxicating rhythms and letting the music feel its pulse. On top of the upright bass & acoustic guitar rhythm section soar burning fiddle, uilleann pipes & flute. The quintessential Irish instrumental powerhouse quintet has been hailed as in Folk Roots as an Irish music dream team and by The Boston Globe as The New Celtic royalty. Lunasa has skyrocketed to those heady heights since the 1997 release of eponymous dazzling debut CD, of which Sing Out Magazine noted 'Seldom has such a humble title masked such magnificence.' The brilliant band gathers some of Ireland's top traditional melody musicians with flute virtuoso & witty frontman Kevin Crawford, All-Ireland Fiddle Champion Sean Smyth, uilleann pipe & whistle player Cillian Vallely, whose incredibly talented musical family includes brother Niall of Nomos and The Karan Casey Band. Joining founding member bassist Trevor Hutchinson will be the Irish guitarist Paul Meehan, replacing founding member Donogh Hennessey. At a recent concert, The Irish Echo echoed what I and many others around the world already know; With a style all their own, Lunasa reinforced their position this evening as the most inventive and exciting instrumental band in the Irish tradition today. Join us at the concert & you'll be in the catbird seat, sure to enlist in the ever-growing legion of Lunasatics around the world. For more, visit www.lunasa.ie.
