Trumpeter Nicholas Payton has made his own indelible mark on the jazz scene with a style reflective of the entire jazz tradition from blues to modern experimental forms, with some New Orleans "second-line" thrown-in for good measure. A former protégé of of trumpet great Wynton Marsalis, Payton, in addition to leading his own band, has worked with Elvin Jones, Ray Brown, and Marcus Roberts. His recent CD, Dear Louis, is a tribute to the great Louis Armstrong.
