piece band serving up sizzling mambo, salsa, rhumba, plena
and cha rhythms that will have you dancing in your seats

Local
pianist/flautist/composer/arranger and music educator Steve
Abrams brings his brave and exciting Latin jazz/salsa octet
Midnight Mambo into the Kuumbwa Jazz Center for a spicy, hot
Cookin at the Kuumbwa Concert on Thursday, February 2. Midnight
Mambo is a powerful and adventurous ensemble, featuring some
of the finest jazz and Latin jazz musicians in the Bay Area.
The group recently performed at the prestigious San Jose International
Jazz Festival. Combining traditional Afro-Cuban and Afro-Puerto
Rican rhythms with jazz harmonies, Midnight Mambo plays original
compositions and pieces by Cal Tjader, Poncho Sanchez, Horace
Silver, Don Grolnick and others. Midnight Mambo’s driving
horn section features Steve Wilson and Tom Daly on trombones,
and Ron Coolidge, trumpet. The dynamic rhythm section is led
by Bosco El Gitano on timbales, master conguero Jose Reyes
from Puerto Rico, and Alicia Rodriguez on percussion, and
is supported by the strong tumbaos of Pete Wilde on bass.
Feel the warm Caribbean breeze, the hot Havana nights, clap
your hands and listen to the sizzling mambo, salsa, rhumba,
plena and cha rhythms that Midnight Mambo serves up. Get up
and dance if you can’t stay in your seats!
